Focus: Yuuichirou & Rei was launched in early September 1998, for a simple reason: I wanted to make a Sailormoon webpage, but I wanted to do something that hadn't already been done a bajillion times. I wanted to focus on a character I liked; someone who wasn't already all shrined out; someone who I thought deserved more attention. At the time, I was going through one of my cycles of Rei-liking (I can never pick a favourite Senshi, so I go through phases of liking each one of them best for a while. Right now it's Minako. Hell, I got a tattoo of her), and in my perusal of some of the better Sailormars shrines, Yuuichirou's name kept kinda hitting me in the eye. (Ow.) I think that's how it started. My memory is hazy now, because the idea germinated gradually over quite some time. The shrine itself, by contrast, was put together quite swiftly in the first week of my second mid-semester break. (And it showed. My knowledge of web design was very minimal. As opposed to its current level, pretty minimal.) After keeping the shrine up for... ummm... about a year, I think, I lost interest in it because I was spending much more time on The Vision of Escaflowneand the associated bishounen and biseinen characters, and passed the baton to a nice person called Mook, who was willing to take over. She in turn maintained the shrine well for several months, before abandoning anime websites in favour of creative writing. A protracted downtime followed, during which I recovered the website files from Mook (my copies were lost in a disastrous computer crash) and slowly, gradually put the shrine back together, with considerable delays because other projects (such as finishing my Master's degree) were higher priorities. I really wanted to return it to the Web, if only in a static state, because I still believe Yuuichirou deserves an online presence. So! Here it is: the Web's first Yuuichirou shrine. Within these pages is everything I could find about my favourite guy in Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (well, apart from Nephrite and Umino and Tiger's Eye and damn it, I must get back to the point), his Great Big Crush on Hino Rei and her, ahem, equivocal response. A small disclaimer: I have not been able to see the full, original Japanese version of every episode featuring Yuuichirou. I've filled in the gaps of my first-hand knowledge with Web-based research. I strive for accuracy at all times, but it's possible that I've made some mistakes, which I'd like to be able to correct. If you identify any, please email me. A few more notes: Yuuichirou is an anime-only character. He does not appear in the manga version of Sailormoon. So all information in the site is anime-based, except a few manga-related notes that seemed relevant or interesting. Where the manga and anime versions of the story contradict each other, the anime version is what this site accepts as 'true.' (e.g. Rei's grandpa does not have a moustache. Yay, irrelevant detail!) So, please explore the shrine, see what you think, and sign the guestbook before you leave. I love to know what people think... of course, flames and pointless entries like 'Good page' and the signer's own banner will be removed. Have fun! |
