Screencaptures from the first Yuuichirou & Rei episode, with sarcastic commentary from a webmistress in a weird mood.

Our first sighting of Yuuichirou. Two eternal mysteries: What is in the duffel-bag? How does he sleep with the corner of a stone step in the small of his back? |
Sleeping Hairy awakes. |
Evidence that he does indeed have eyes. |
Which are entirely replaceable with big pink candy hearts. |
It's becoming kind of obvious that this was not one of the better-animated first season episodes. It looks like Yuuichirou would be shorter than Rei if he stood up. |
If this was the only picture you'd seen of him you could be excused for thinking Yuuichirou is really fat. |
George, George, George of the jungle, lives a life that's free... |
Alas, his rope has been sabotaged by the same dastards that did for Dick Grayson's parents. Moral: not all mentors who get you to wear a cape and swing around on ropes are equally awesome. |
Personally I think a lot of this is an outgrowth of Grandpa's thwarted Batman fantasies. |
Yes. Yes she does. But drawing attention to it in front of her friends is not the smoothest move in the world. |
I just... God, whoever storyboarded this episode is bad at composition. |
Yuuichirou looks dumpy, Rei looks possessed, and it's par for the course. |
Apropos of nothing, I wanna swing on that candy-striped bell-pull behind his head. |
It really takes superpowers to wipe out to such an extent. She couldn't have done it better if she'd WANTED to show everyone her underpants - hey! |
How to draw wet hair like a twerp: draw dry hair and then draw some 'water' on top of it. Poor Yuuichirou. What a debut. |
You know, with the romantic, melancholy, autumnal setting, this could have been such a beautiful scene if a better animation unit had worked on it. |
GACK. You know, I love this episode, I just hate the animation. |
I enjoy squatting behind trees saying I'm Cupid. |
You may well ask. |
I'm going to stop writing captions until I see a screencap I can say something positive about. |
Oh hey! He doesn't look quite as fat in this one! Maybe they figured out where his body is inside the hakama. |
Overheating it a bit. |
In Yuuichirou's fantasy life, EVERYTHING has a pink and white polka-dotted background. |
WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE. |
Look! He can blush blue! Must be royalty. |
Somehow this image just brings to mind a terrible Beavis and Butt-head wheezing laugh. |
It is truly amazing how fast she got dressed. Also, they always look so cute side by side in their vestments. |
He's starting to look decent! |
They actually managed to approximate 'handsome' in this shot! |
Um, too bad about how they then drew Rei. But at least she's moved. |
You have twinkly tears when you're bishoujo. |
Open wide! Expand your face unnaturally! |
WOW Rei is sweaty in this shot. Sweaty and stripy. Usagi looks like you just told her Elmo died of an overdose in a brothel. |
The archetypical 'Shucks!' face. |
She's not blushing quite as hard as when he said he'd die for her, but this is basically the same drawing of her face. |
Ah, the sweet words every swain longs to hear from his lady. |
Pregnant pause. |
Aw, she gets him. That's so much better than never getting got. |
SMACK. |
Sigh. The smooth thing to do is to kiss back. Not open your mouth like you're going to try to swallow her head. |
Grandpa was drawn by Edvard Munch in this frame. |
You get the impression Yuuichirou hasn't gotten laid much. |
His mouth is like a big, pink peanut. |
Well of course she has, but do you think she'd admit it in front of her grandfather and your freakish talking cat? |
When someone overreacts my friend Emily whispers 'O.R.' (whispers) O.R. |
The hearts actually orbit Yuuichirou's head like a tiny planetary system, each one with its own little squishy pink Senshi. |
Yeah, then you too can one day be a ghost in a lavender tuxedo. Marrying one of these girls is fraught with peril. Peril of looking like Liberace. |
Not until she's eighteen, any road. Do you notice how he's enfattened again? |
And as we all stare at Makoto's yellow heiny, a hideously obese Yuuichirou pursues a possessed Rei as she chases a suddenly dwarfish Usagi. It's the end of a perfect day. |
